Dr. Pellebon was a 2019 recipient of the Oklahoma Universal Human Rights Award. This yearly award is presented by the Oklahoma Human Rights Alliance and the United Nations Association of Oklahoma.

Dr. Pellebon was one of co-founders and elected chairperson for the Police and Community Trust Initiative Oklahoma. In 2016, Law Enforcement and Community leaders held a summit to agree on policies and practices to increase trust.

Dwain Pellebon cares about families and human equality. This photo goes back to 1996 when an unnecessary cut was made to TANF family benefits. He remains active to protecting rights and the community.
Dr. Pellebon is the first Black American Ph.D. to achieve tenure and promotion at the O.U. Zarrow School of Social Work. He is a published scholar and expert on prejudice and social oppression. Dr. Pellebon was described as a "valued and respected colleague" and it is reported he does not mind "giving a hand" or even "holding a handbag" for students.
